Synopsis: Evan (Stiller) is perfectly integrated in the perfect little town of Glenview, until an employee is murdered in his supermarket. He then decides to start a Night Watch, not knowing yet that Aliens have started an invasion...
Review: I had read that The Watch was not so good but I watched it anyway when looking for an easy comedy. Ben Stiller actually plays this time a different role than he did in other dumb comedies: this time he cares about others, a lot, to the point of defending his city. The soldiers of fortune that join him are another breed: either violent or looking for party buddies or a sex mate. The mix leads to some funny moments if you like this kind of humor, my favorite being when the team brings home a dead Alien and start to take dumber and dumber selfies with it.
Some deeper characters development (Stiller trying to have children, Vaughn over-controlling his 16-year old daughter...) allow to rise a bit the level of the movie which would otherwise be too bad while not dumb enough to be funny and watchable with friends on a pizza evening. Still, in the series of Stiller / Vaughn / Wilson movies, The Watch stands behind Zoolander, Dodgeball, Mystery Men or even Starsky and Hutch.
Rating: 4 /10
