The November Man (2014)

Also Known As: -
Year of first release: 2014

Genre: Thriller
Conditions of visioning: 15.09.2014, CINEMA theater, MFFF2014
Synopsis: The ex-agent Devereaux (Brosnan) is reactivated to retreive information that could compromise the future Russian president.
Review: The big American action / thriller / spy movie of the MFFF2014 selection, with Pierce Brosnan (ex-James Bond) and Olga Kurylenko (ex Bond-girl). It doesn't really fit in a festival where you go to discover something that may never be released in theaters.
It was actually a bad idea to watch it: The November Man looks like a patchwork of ideas neither very well shot nor acted nor edited. The contrast with the efficient small budget movie I watched just before (It Follows) is striking: they both last 100 minutes but the second felt twice longer to me, an I was impressed by the lack of originality in this poor James Bond copy: all the action takes place in Belgrade to make the movie more exotic but I think it was rather because it is cheaper to make a movie there.
What I disliked the most is probably the compulsory but unjustified violence scene (including CGI gun wounds) every 10 minutes apparently to keep the viewer awake. The November Man is nothing more than "the new Pierce Brosnan movie". Almost as bad as The American but with more action to compensate for the lack of Italian countryside landscapes.
Rating: 2 /10
