Review: I read it was a simple B-movie with jump-scares but gook-looking and well-done. Well, I find it not bad for a relatively cheap ($3M) genre movie made by a couple of young directors (those guys, not true brothers, are 27). They were present at the festival to introduce their movie, and said they made it because the had never seen such a horror comedy about aliens that they liked. In a very similar style I actually preferred the Australian Undead by the Spierig (true) Brothers in which I found the drama moments better integrated to the SF and Comedy, the British Evil Aliens by Jake West and the Spanish Mucha Sangre.
I found the movie a bit too long, insisting too much on some drama while the viewer is longing for alien action. Also there is an abuse of people wandering in the dark with flashlights, and the consequent jump-scares. On a positive side, there are some very nice shots (the saucer overhead stopping the rain, the last long travelling shot), special effetcs are good for this kind of movie, and Michael Ironside is showing off just enough. The soundtrack is not bad either but usually too loud and thus not discreet nor very well integrated in the action.
Rating: 4 /10
