Synopsis: Issa (Dobrygin), half-Chechen, half-Russian, brutally tortured immigrant turns up in Hamburg's Islamic and tries to find the help of a banker (Dafoe) linked to his dead father. A German anti-terrorist spy Günther Bachmann (Hoffman) observes it and wants to use Issa to fish a bigger fish. He has to defend his position from the German police and from the US secret services. But Issa will be helped by the attorney Annabel Richter (McAdams).
Review: Based on a novel by John Le Carré, the story is good for a book. For a movie, it is not so easy to keep the suspense without cinematographical effect. With excellent actors as Hoffman and McAdams, it is better but not a real success. The directing does not create any rythm nor any suspense effect (music, surprises, changes of colour, of light). Apart from this story, the story on spying its own citizens (for Germany) and spying the citizens of friend countries (for USA) is very modern with the facts put on the table by Edward Snowden. But it is just a side effect.
