Review: The key date around which all Back to the Future movies revolve is October 21st, and in particular scenes in the second movie take place 30 years in the future, on that date in 2015. That was the opportunity this year for many people around the world to watch the trilogy again and celebrate their love for it (see our review of Part I, Part II and Part III). It was also the opportunity for this new documentary Back in Time that gathers scenes of the movies, interviews of many of its cast, crew and fans. I found that the making-of part didn't bring too much compared to documentaries I had already seen on the Blu-ray box-set which is a few years old, except for the release of some scenes shot with Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly before Zemeckis realized that the humour the actor brought was not the one he was looking for, and he re-casted Michael J. Fox (his original choice) for the role. Also the interviews are only a little more interesting because the interviewed are a bit older and the context of the 30 years anniversary is emotionally stronger. Michael J. Fox in particular is always as funny and witty in spite of his disease. Finally the only real new element in Back in Time is the intervention of fans, from DeLorean time machine builders to website hosts to a guy who proposed to his girlfriend at a convention on the music of Earth Angel. |
