Review: I had much higher expectations for this movie after collecting the many awesome posters you can see at the end of this post. It does not hide its reverence to John Carpenter's work, from the setting in a hospital like the Master directed at the end of Halloween and wrote for Halloween 2, the enclosed space a-la-Assault on Precinct 13, the monsters design remembering The Thing, the portal to Evil like in Prince of Darkness or In the Mouth of Madness, and the ever-present shadow of Chtulu from H. P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness which Carpenter always dreamt of adapting. Even the music is omnipresent and quite good in fact.
But apart from a few apparitions of some sensational beasts I have to admit, I found that the story was not very consistent and with so little to tell that the actors had to look very tense and continuously try to make us feel the danger, that it fell flat.
That's too bad, the movie contains a few good ideas and some striking visuals. Maybe to be used in a better sequel?
Rating: 4 /10
