Review: Greg McLean made a remarkable debut in 2005 with the original Survival movie Wolf Creek, and followed with the good crocodile movie Rogue (featuring Sam Worthington just before Avatar). You can see in this long-awaited sequel that he has gained movie-making knowledge and budget since that time.
What is good about Wolf Creek 2 is that the story is different than in the first one that was taking place mostly at the madman's farm. It would have been too easy to make just another kidnapping/torture/escape movie, but here you get more surprised by the turns of events, a bit like Jeepers Creepers 2 was surprising. The gunman (wonderfully played by John Jarratt and his sadistic laugh) is now indeed presented like the boogeyman in Victor Salva's movie, or like Dr Satan in The House of the 1000 Corpses, with some hints of the killer in the excellent German Urban Explorer.
What disappointed me is that the movie ends up like a kidnapping/torture/escape and I don't like when those scenes last too long, especially when it is done in an ultra-realistic way like it is here. Maybe I am too old for this stuff.
Rating: 5 /10
