Munich Fantasy Film Fest 2013 - Conclusion

The MFFF2013 is over and it is time for a report, as I did last year for the MFFF2012.
I have watched 19 movies (exactly as many as last year) and all the reviews can be found under this link. The histogram of ratings is shown below:

The overall quality of the movies I have seen is average/good, which is worse than last year. In comparison, this year I have awarded no rating below 3/10 or above 8/10, while last year there was one 0/10 and one 9/10.
The festival ended better than it started: I have seen less movies during the second week but better ones. My favorite movies belong to many different genres: the original Cheap Thrills, the scientifically accurate Europa Report and the German polar Robin Hood, followed by the horrific V/H/S 2, the giallo Tulpa, the comedy Welcome to the Jungle, the dark comedy In the Name of the Son, the unclassifiable comedy Pawn Shop Chronicles and the serious thriller Dark Touch.

A vote by the public was organized for the movies in the category "Fresh Blood", i.e. first or second movie by a director. The palmares is:
1. Blancanieves
2. The Body
3. Cheap Thrills

I have seen Biancanieves at the BIFFF2013 and liked it, but I would have put Cheap Thrills first. I have only seen the trailer of The Body but a friend who has seen it told me it was only OK, so it probably doen't belong on the podium, but it is also true that the selection was limited in this category.

The movies I had already seen are:

The ones I missed but may try to catch in Blu-ray are, in order of decreasing preference:
  • Makkhi with its killer fly
  • A field in England
  • I declare war
  • Wrong
  • Miserere
  • Aftershock
  • Siberian Education
  • Come out and play
  • App
  • Banshee chapter
My conclusion about the whole festial experience is bout the same as in 2012, except that this year I was less bothered by tall guys in front of me, but more by people eating pop corn, nachos or any kind of crunchy things during the movie. This lack of politeness spoiled many movie beginnings for me, waiting that the pop corn bags become empty. I know that cinemas sell food to make more money, but for me it is detrimental to a pleasant cinema experience, and reminds me why I prefer to watch movies at home.
I have seen two movies at the GABRIEL cinema and I can say about it the same a I said last year about the CITY Kino.

The CINEMA theater, venue for most of the movies at the MFFF2013
The main actress of Robin Hood, Dagny Dewath, just passed by to say hello as the director was not available.
Vincent Lannoo, director of In the Name of the Son, is entertaining the audience.

Marina de Van told us her very personal interpretation of her movie Dark Touch.
