Review: In July, there is Das Arthausfestival, a serie of relatively old movies shown in remastered quality in the movie theaters of Bremen. The second movie I see is this one.
I watched this movie as a teenager and I did not remember at all the first part, being the wedding of Steven. The scenes of Russian roulette are impressive of tension. Several aspects of the psychological consequences of war are reviewed, and the war is not the focus of the movie but the interaction between the old friends before and after the war. The acting of Walken, Streep and De Niro are excellent of subtlety in each of the three phases of the movie. Within the pictures of war some real war images have been introduced to give more realism. The hunting scenes are beautiful and pure and contrasts with the war scenes. The directing by Cimino and acting shows good mastering of different types of movies.
Rating: 8 /10
