Review: I may have liked the conclusion to the famous franchises Rocky Balboa and John Rambo, I started to be doubtful about the return of the 80's Action films (driven by two of its main actors Stallone and Schwarzenegger) after watching Escape Plan, The Last Stand or The Expendables 2. I was pleasantly surprised by Bullet to the Head although it was neither a public nor critics success. I found it to be very dark, and mostly void of the humour usually forced into this kind of movie to release the tension. It is nevertheless easy to watch, and the action scenes are satisfying in their realism and violence. The story of a cop forced to work with a criminal is not new but works well, even though Sung Kang is not really convincing. I was glad to realize Walter Hill could still deliver this kind of movie, and I am not tempted to watch again the classic The Warriors. Of course the movie is not exempt of defects, but I would like to see some like that more often. |
