Synopsis: After making their way through high school, big changes are in store for officers Schmidt (Hill) and Jenko (Tatum) when they go deep undercover at a local college. But when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team, and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership.
Review: The first minutes of the movie are not so bad. These announce a parody of cop movies. But finally it is just a Jonah Hill movie with some good ideas of humour that are repeated badly all along the movie, like playing love partners dialogues with his cop partner. Some scenes are still funny via the situation of the cop boss (Ice Cube) understanding that Hill SPOILER fucked his daughter. The end credits is extremely long, repetitive and ridiculous, a bit like the jokes during the movie.

Did you see the first movie 21, Jump Street before this one? Because I think it is much more funny if you have, as many of the jokes are references to that one, in fact from the start they make fun of sequels in general, and their own in particular. They raise the question of what a good sequel should be and apply it to the story: do exactly the same as the first movie because this is what people liked. But of course they add a few twists. This reflexion on the movie itself reminded me of the similar approach in Deadpool.
ReplyDeleteSo I found the movie better than the first one, even though most of the jokes are dumb dick/ass ones. Tatum and Hill are very ridiculaous most of the time and that got me a few laughs. I liked the reaction of Ice Cube that you mention.
But unlike you I also loved the end credits, actualy one of my favorite moments in the movie, when they enumerate the possible sequels with the support of fake posters that I found hilarious. I have added a few to the end of your review. I love the ridiculousness of some (ballet school, mariachi school with a chicken on the poster) and the catchphrases of others: "let's stew this" for the culinary school, or "holy sh*t!" for the priest school movie in which Seth Rogen replaces Jonah Hill because of a contract dispute. All those fake posters can be found under this link.
My rating: 5/10.
