Review: In July, there is Das Arthausfestival, a
serie of relatively old movies shown in remastered quality in the movie
theaters of Bremen. The fourth and last movie I see is this one For that movie I was motivated to see Klaus Kinski that I liked in Aguirre. And also to see the legendary challenge of the movie directed by Werner Herzog. Actually Herzog is at least as crazy as Fitzcarraldo. For the movie trees have been destroyed and a real boat has been transported through the forest! This project is amazing and the conviction of Fitzcarraldo is also the one of Herzog. This makes the movie so interesting. On top of it we have a large use of indigenous language. I do not know how they have been treated but from the linguistic point of view it must be interesting as well. The quality of modern HD or 4K would have enhanced the beauty of the rain forest. Otherwise the acting of Kinski as both obsessed and seriously scientific guy is delightful. Apart from that, the story is relatively basic with a low rythm. |

Again you beat me to it. Once I was talking to a friend about Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes with Klaus Kinski, in which he and his conquistadores cross mountains while carrying cannons and supplies. He told me: "you should watch Fitzcarraldo, they try to get a boat across mountains!". No Blu-ray edition was available at that time (I have just found out it is now available in Germany) so I bought the DVD on which one can also find a documentary entitled the Burden of Dreams. I definitely have to watch them soon.
