Review: After recently watching the not so good Power of Soul, I had the opportunity to view this other documentary about another musical style that I like. In Open Air the image quality was poor but the sound was good, at least until people started to speak and I couldn't hear anymore the dialogs of the movie. Anyway, it was interesting to see Legends of Rocksteady telling how the beat of Ska slowed down more and more to give Rocksteady in a period during which the life was good in Kingston. The beat slowed even further to give the Reggae of Peter Tosh, Bob Marley and the Wailers that all started with Rocksteady by the way.
But the interview scenes are not all interesting and seem more like a transition between the musical parts. Those parts are extracted from the recording session of the CD with the same title as this documentary, in which Rocksteady Legends cover their best tunes, and sometimes the documentary works like an advertisement for the CD.
Well, it worked on me, I have ordered the CD!
