Synopsis: The story of little Marji born in Iran not long before the resolution, and until her mid-twenties.
Review: I expected to laugh more during this movie, because of the critics comments printed on the Blu-ray cover, like "fun" or "hilarious", while most of it is actually a cold depiction of the revolution and war in Iran, and the related atrocities. It is viewed through the eyes of a little girl and she makes her own interpretation of it, but the true story is nonetheless scary. It is adapted from a comics of the same name, inspired by the life of the author, and actually reminds me a lot of the German Maus comics that tells of the survival of the author's father through the Holocaust.
The second part when she lives in Europe is more relaxed and focuses on how people view Iran from outside, in parallel to Marji's first loves.
This animated movie is actually an interesting and original way of telling about the History of Iran without making a full drama or melodrama, in the same spirit of what was done with Argo.
Rating: 6 /10

  1. I liked this movie. Indeed it is not a comedy, but a drama with some humour also like with the "Punk is not dead". The story is binding emotionally. The contrast of innocence with lack of freedom, the search for the sense of freedom. My rating would have been 7/10.
