Review: I was sold when I read the synopsis of Hungarian vampire during the Cold War. I still have an excellent memory of the other Hungarian comedy Kontroll from 2003. Unfortunately this one is not as good, but it is a tough goal. In another genre I can also recommend the 2016 Hurok (Loop). Surely the movie looks good: sets, clothes, haircuts, accessories, ... you dive immediately in the time period. In the characters and their dialogs I found again what I liked in Kontroll: real humans but exaggerated at the same time, quick to answer and insult each other non-violently... or violently. Situations, characters and dialogs (even though through the filter of sub-titles) are clearly the best elements in this movie. The Vampire story is simply introduced and its Cuban origin reminds immediately of the cult animated ¡Vampiros en La Habana!. Where the movie fails unfortunately is at keeping the pace for its runtime which is not even too long, and at delivering a satisfying ending to me. A pity. |
