Review: I didn't know what to expect from this movie. It is often sold as a horror movie. How wrong this is! This movie is more of a hypnotic reflexion about cinema (some elements remind me of Matinee a.k.a. Panic on Florida Beach by Joe Dante). It is true that part of the movie is quite gore, and that's a pity because it will exclude a large public that could otherwise have appreciated the concept. It also makes it difficult to recommend. I cannot tell much more without spoiling the surprise. Actors are very good and the settings beautiful (in particular the Barcelona apartment decorated by Gaudi and in which Bigas Luna gives the bonus interview proposed on the Blu-ray). Hypnotic images and the music plays an important role. If you are in the right mood (I mean a bit tired) you can really get absorbed by the movie! When you watch it you understand that it is better seen in a cinema room with other people. |
