Synopsis: The life story of David Prowse, known among SF fans around the world as Darth Vader from the original Star Wars trilogy, but from whom we never see the face or hear the voice in the movies.
Review: This Documentary well shot by a couple of Spanish Star Wars fans, obviously, focuses on the sad story of David Prowse, through archive videos and interviews of him and of others involved in the production of the original Star Wars trilogy, but not George Lucas. We learn about the hiring process, the reception of the movie ... but more interestingly about the frictions between the production and the British actor having a reputation (later proven to be false) of talking too much to the press, something not liked when you want to keep elements of your story secret until release.
There were frictions and secrets to the point that another actor (Sebastian Shaw) was cast to play the face of Vader in Return of the Jedi under the semi-valid pretense that an older face was required, and the scene was shot hidden from Prowse. This finished to destroy the relationship between Prowse and Lucasfilm (both still don't speak to this day) which were already tense since the voice of James Earl Jones was used for Vader (this time fully justified even for Prowse) and a stunt double was asked to play acting scenes that Prowse was supposed to do.
It is quite sad to see this monument of SF pop culture still bitter about the experience after 30 years and not invited to Star Wars conventions, but comforting to see him enjoy the contact with the fans at other SF gatherings.
As a tentative healing process, director Marcos Cabotá proposes Prowse to re-shoot the scene he was deprived of, which they do and show once to a limited audience, unfortunately not authorized by Lucasfilm to ever share it further.
Rating: 5 /10
