The world's end (2013)

Also Known As: -
Year of first release: 2013
Director: Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz)
Actors: Simon Pegg (Star Trek), Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz), Rosamund Pike (Die Another Day), Martin Freeman (The Hobbit)

Conditions of visioning: 19.08.2013, Schauburg, OV Sneak preview
Synopsis: Five friends who reunite in an attempt to top their epic pub crawl from 20 years earlier unwittingly become humankind's only hope for survival.
Review: The humour is similar to what the same team (Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Edgar Wright) did with Shaun of the dead. The center of gravity of the movie are the pubs and the friendship between two guys. The story drifts to a good science fiction movie, with well done effect (alien robots) except one at the end. The master of the aliens looks quite dumb from the picture point of view, while it is a very funny dialogue. The movie does not have the same originality as Shaun, but is still funny with good scenes.
Plenty of fans made posters of this movie. A selection is on a blog.
Rating: 6 /10

  1. Nice fan posters you found there! I needed absolutely to conclude the Cornetto trilogy after loving Shaun of the Dead and enjoying a lot Hot Fuzz. I watched the Blu-ray of The World's End on 04.02.2015.
Their director Edgar Wright describes them as Trojan Horse movies, i.e. Comedies hidden behind respectively a Horror, Police and SF movie. Presented like that, I can definity praise the intention! The World's End is quite different from its predecessors, I cannot say that the authors tried to copy what worked (except for the recurring garden fence joke). I found the humour to be forced at the beginning, but then it became more natural after they discover the horrible Truth, and Andy starts to drink. The movie then eases on towards the end which is not remarkable.
But what amazed me is the quality of the fights choreography, better than in many Hollywood big budgets I have recently seen. I really enjoyed those fights a lot.
So in conclusion I rather agree with your review.
