Synopsis: Jack (Clooney) is a gifted custom weapon manufacturer and contract killer. Some people are after him is Sweden so he goes hiding in Italy where he will start a new contract.
Review: Recently I was wondering if I was not giving too high ratings on this blog. After watching The American, I realize that I was giving high ratings because I was choosing to watch movies I knew I would like. I didn't know anything about this movie but was expecting some thriller and a spy story. It is far from that and hard to define, probably closer to a drama with some romance. In the end the only good thing is the acting of George Clooney, doing everything he can to carry the message of the movie (I think...): being a contract killer is a lonely job. Otherwise the movie seems just an excuse to show extremely professional killers, nice old Italian cities (and not even at their best) and Violante Placido half naked half of the time.
