Dear Cinephiles,
As announced in October JoRafCinema had a quite exciting month of November by following two film festivals: Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre and Nordic Film Days Lübeck. Even if they are very different from the organisation, location, culture and programming, both have been very motivating.
In Lübeck we could experience Fulldome and Virtual Reality movies, and among classical projections the highlights were the Latvian Es esmu seit, a.k.a. I am here, for the great acting, the Icelandic Hjartasteinn, a.k.a. Heartstone, for the image composition and the fine work on the subject of homophobia and the Norvegian Rosemari for the moving melodrama and the moments of great humour.
The BARS was previewed in October and during the Festival we have recorded an informative interview with the organizer Ariana Bouzón. A summary article is in preparation. The best movie we have seen there was the Polono-American post-apocalyptic Drama Embers. The others were not so great, but we can further recommend the Dutch The Windmill Massacre, Daylight's End, the Brazilian FantastiCozzi for its historical value on Italian horror movies and the one entitled Attack of the Lederhosen Zombies is pretty bad but deserves to be mentioned just for its title.
In addition this month we have reviewed a classic Giallo: Mario Bava's Lisa e il Diavolo (Lisa and the Devil) and we kept on loving Kevin Spacey as President in the fourth season of House of Cards. Among recent theatre releases we loved the strange Swiss Aloys and the short Solitary by Daniel Rucsko deserves attention as well.
From the stats on JoRafCinema, we should expect a slower pace of reviews in December. But there might be some surprises...
Jo&Raf
