Review: What I preferred in this movie is what I already liked in the first one: wild action scenes involving futuristic weaponry, but they are far too rare in this episode. Only some guided bullets that you see once in action, explosive flying bugs, an armored buggy car built for the Rock and the nice underused final weapon: God's rods, or Kinetic bombardment (see Wikipedia page). Spoiler (highlight to read): this multi-satellite multi-billion dollars weapon ends up being destroyed on the click of a button! The winning team of the first movie (Tatum, Nichols, Wayans, Taghmaoui) seems to have been replaced by cheap, less good-looking copies (Yung, Cotrona) to preserve money to pay Johnson and Willis's salaries. The role of Roadblock (nice name) is perfect for Johnson and he is a nice attraction in this movie. The (post-converted) 3D is OK. The whole scene of nuclear disarmament between the world leaders is pitiful. It is balanced with the visually stunning ninja fight along a cliff, not recommended for people fearing heights. Funny detail: the buttons 'ready', 'arm', 'fire' in the nuclear suitcase of the french president have been translated 'pret', 'bras', 'feu'... That is to say that the translators on this blockbuster are as good as the ones for Toxic Avenger 2, in which 'nuclear plant' was translated by 'plante nucléaire'. |
