La pazza gioia (2016)

Synopsis: Donatella (Ramazzotti) and Beatrice (Bruni-Tedeschi) reside in a psychiatric facility in Tuscany. Donatella is new while Beatrice knows the pension very well. They have very different life stories, but a chance to escape brings them together in an adventure that will change their lives forever and will help them realize the beauty in imperfection.
Review: The story is bitter sweet. The crazy Beatrice does not stop talking about herself, fills the life of Donatella and motivates her that way. The balance between comedy and drama, between hilarious scenes and emotional scenes is well kept and this is not easy.  The adventures that both are doing have something from Thelma and Louise for the emancipation and risks taken on the road trip. It has also something from Mr Hulot for the absurdity of some situations.  Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi plays again an ambivalent role. She has the fragility of a broken heart and the arrogant self-confidence of the upper-class. And she manages to keep an authentic balance and her character calls for compassion. The role of Micaela Ramazzotti is less binding but played also with a good balance between guilt and victim.
