The Windmill Massacre (2016)

Also Known As: -
Year of first release: 2016
Director: Nick Jongerius (producer of Frankenstein's Army)
Actors: Noah Taylor, Charlotte Beaumont, Patrick Baladi
Country: NL
Genre: Thriller, Horror
Conditions of visioning: 05.11.2016, Multiplex Lavalle, BARS2016
Synopsis: Several people meet in Amsterdam at the departure of a bus tour of the countryside windmills. Each has a different motivation for being here.
Review: This movie may sound like a simple slasher and you know that the cast is going to get decimated, but it has a nice "European" touch I would say, being a Dutch production (although in English language mostly). I couldn't help but thinking about Dick Maas' Amsterdamned during the first 10 minutes in the capital.
The boogeyman design and story are interesting if not really original, and the characters have a back-story more developed than usual (I am thinking about the recent Howl that also had its cast trapped in the middle of a forest).
The visual aspect of the movie is serious, and so are the special effects and the violent deaths. Even the morality at the end is refreshing compared to the usual lot. It is only a pity I didn't see in the best conditions: weak sound, uncomfortable seats, noisy neighbours, overlapping subtitles.
Rating: 6 /10
