Review: This looks like a movie Robert Rodriguez shot for his kids, and from what I read it was indeed his intention. The story is minimalistic, the actors a bunch of known faces that may be the only interest for adults to watch Spy Kids, and the worst are the special effects, made with no intent of looking realistic. I like the design and idea of the all-thumbs robots, but they look as cheap as the rest. Many visual concepts remind Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, although that one dates from four years later... When I think that three sequels were produced... |
