Synopsis: In a near future society a writer buys a new Operating system supposed to be the best artificial intelligence in his time. He slowly falls in love with it.
Review: I remember movies in the 80's where a child becomes best friend with a computer, then in 2012 Robot and Frank where an old man becomes best friend with a robot. This movie makes a man, who writes letters for a living, fall in love with an OS. The voice of Scarlett Johansson is indeed very very attractive. The story is a bit slow and as one could expect of such a relationship, not much happens. And the emotions of Joaquin Phoenix are well interpreted but not so complex as I expected with such a plot. The directing is fine but not original except for one thing. The near future world is an extension of what we can already see: people who do not talk together but only to their cell phones, their computer. And when this happens, it looks very ungenuine. Actually the plot is great but it has not been exploited as it could have been. And the man that is continuously thinking positively is after a while almost boring. This does not look like life, like passion, like love. And actually it is supposed to be a new romance.

Since I read the joke that Joaquin Phoenix wears well the moustache and could be the new Magnum P.I., I can't help but think about Tom Selleck when I see the poster of Her.
ReplyDeleteA "new romance" as you say is what I would have expected from this story. Too bad if it was not well exploited.
