Dear Cinephiles,

In January, we have seen many movies kind of historical, going from Deepwater Horizon with its impression of isolation and the impressive accident, to a series of Hollywood Roman Epic (Quo vadis, The Fall of the Roman Empire) and the not enough feminist Marie Curie. About feminism we have also seen Frida.
French comedies are always in focus around new year, and with more or less success. Like Les tontons flingueurs, cult funny comedy mixed within polar and excellent acting and dialogs, or Le cerveau with often exaggerated scenes.
In the genre Science Fiction we liked the 90's The Arrival with Charlie Sheen, and also very much the Star Wars spin-off Rogue One, maybe better than the Episode VII from last year.
We experienced great emotions in the intense Manchester by the Sea as well as in the western by Sergio Leone For a few dollars more, but were not impressed by the multi-awarded La La Land.
We also opened a living article on the Directors present on JoRafCinema. This will be updated time to time and gives an overview on the directors we watch and possibly appreciate.

At last we wish you a great cinematographic year 2017!

Jo&Raf
