Dear Cinephiles,
JoRafCinema's newsletter is back after a summer break rather quiet in movie-watching due to the excellent weather that kept us out of the theaters.
Nevertheless we found the time to watch most material in the Terminator franchise: Judgment Day, Rise of the Machines, Salvation and the latest release Genisys. We also watched the two seasons of the rather unknown TV-series The Sarah Connor Chronicles (season 1 and season 2), and started to read the series of novel by S.M. Stiring that we can highly recommend: T2: Infiltrator, T2: Rising Storm and T2: The Future War.
We also watched many Fantasy / SF classics from the last 25 years: Conan the Barbarian and its amazing score, Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park, James Cameron's Aliens, Duncan Jones's Moon, J.J Abrams' Star Trek and John Carpenter's They Live. On a more dramatic tone, we liked Dennis Villeneuve's short film Next Floor and his full-length Prisoners with Jake Gyllenhaal and Hugh Jackman, as well as Clint Eastwood's American Sniper especially for the performance by Bradley Cooper, and the final season of Sons of Anarchy. We also liked the comedies Coconut hero and Sliding doors, the documentary The Salt of the Earth, the life biopic Gainsbourg (Vie héroïque) and the modern life story Victoria.
We recommend La ragazza che sapeva troppo by Mario Bava as initiator of the subgenre Giallo.
