Review: This is the conclusion to the trilogy of TV-movies after Red Riding: 1974 and Red Riding: 1980 that I both liked. There were still some mysteries after the first two movies, as well as unfair endings, and this third movie wraps it all up nicely, sort of. It is good to see yet a third side of the same events that keep on repeating themselves. The movie is still dark and don't make you want to spend any time in a police station in Yorkshire in the 70's: torture, murders, false accusations and imprisonment... The whole spirit is the movie (and of the trilogy) is well summarized by the sentence that the powerful people repeat several times: "This is the North, where we do what we want". In the end you will learn that (spoiler, highlight to read) they don't even do bad things for the greater good (I am thinking about Hot Fuzz), but for pure evil reasons.
The movie is still very slow, mysterious and not very verbose. The English language with strong British accent didn't help, and I had to go look for a summary of all movies on the web to make sure I got the core of the story.
Actually as this movies tries to make the link with the two others, and this via two main characters, we don't get the time to get close to one of them like we did in the other movies. Because of this I found that there was too much distance to the viewer. I am glad to have seen the conclusion to the story, but for me clearly the third movie is not as good as the first two.
Rating: 5 /10
