Review: In this sequel to the Disney/Pixar film Cars, adventure has replaced nostalgy to join comedy and light romance. The computer images are as well done and immersive as in the first film, and the spy-movie part is an interesting and well-chosen direction for a sequel. Highly recommended for a family evening.
Rating: 7 /10

  1. That review was a bit short so I can elaborate a little more now that I have watched the movie again. I found that Cars 2 is a good mix between the car races that make the success of the first movie and all the ingredients to make a good spy movie. And the voice of Michael Caine (The Fourth Protocol, Kingsman: The Secret Service) as Finn McMissile brings a lot to that.
The movie is also a good mix between returning characters (loved by the kids) and new ones, and between easy jokes and word plays more difficult to catch. Only now do I understand the joke Tow Mater = Tomato!, the name of a bad guy Zündapp is actually a German motorcycle brand (and the guy is voiced by Thomas Kretschmann), and there are plenty of small details and inscriptions throughout the movie that are funny when you manage to catch them.
Definitely an excellent Pixar movie, better than the first one for me, and almost at the level of The Indestructibles in terms of adult second layer of meanings.
